Emirates Selects Mercury Air Cargo At LAX
Announcement Comes After Emirates
A380 Debuts At LAX
Los Angeles, CA (August 11,
2008): Mercury Air Cargo, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary
of Mercury Air Group, Inc., announced today that it has been selected
as the cargo handler at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
for Emirates Airline. Beginning in October, Mercury will be responsible
for all cargo handling and warehouse services for Emirates, which
will have daily flights coming into LAX. Mercury will service
Emirates out of its 200,000 square foot on-airport cargo and office
facility at LAX. Emirates SkyCargo division will also maintain
offices at Mercury’s facility.
“Emirates A380 fever” hit LAX on Tuesday
of last week, as the airline debuted the first of its 58 A380
double-decker super jumbo aircraft for Los Angeles area elected
officials and aviation industry executives. Currently, Emirates
has a fleet of 119 aircraft, flying to over 100 destinations in
61 countries around the world. Nearly 800 Emirates flights depart
Dubai each week on their way to destinations on six continents.
Emirates current order-book stands at 237 aircraft with a total
value of approximately $71 billion.
“This is a big win for Mercury Air Cargo.
I am very proud that Emirates has selected us to provide cargo
handling services at LAX. Emirates is one of the world’s
premiere airlines, serving a part of the world that will continue
to see increased commerce for decades to come. Additionally, at
a time that other airlines are struggling to survive, Emirates
recently posted record net profits. Emirates has an award-winning
international cargo division and I am pleased that Mercury is
their partner in Los Angeles,” said Joseph A. Czyzyk, Chairman
and Chief Executive Officer of Mercury Air Group, Inc.
Mercury Air Cargo, Inc. provides cargo handling
and warehouse services, logistics services, air cargo charter
and airline cargo sales worldwide. Mercury Air Cargo’s Hermes
Aviation serves as a Cargo General Sales Agent (GSA) for a number
of the largest international airlines with offices throughout
the United States, Canada and Mexico. Hermes Aviation De Mexico
is the largest GSA in Mexico, sourcing thousands of tons of cargo
annually to and from Mexico, Central and South America. Mercury
Air Cargo provides air cargo services in its own warehouse facilities
on airports in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Toronto and Montreal. Mercury
Air Cargo, through Mercury World Cargo, is a FAA Part 135 certified
carrier and a member of the International Airline Clearing House.
“This was a very competitive process. Executives
from Emirates in both New York and Dubai toured our operations
and we had to respond to a RFP that was very demanding. It’s
not an understatement that all of our competitors wanted this
contract. I am very proud of our team’s efforts and I look
forward to personally ensuring a level of success that exceeds
Emirates expectations,” said John Peery, Vice President
of Mercury Air Cargo’s cargo operations.
